ETCETERABUZZ.COM Shows Promise In C2K12- Strengthens Determination On Closure of Torontolime.com

It’s a carnival with a lot of buzz. Local entertainment website etceterabuzz.com is being highly commended for its work this carnival season, having maintained its goal of supplying everyone across the globe with pertinent information as it relates to the soca artistes of the season and more.

Since the site’s launch on December 26th, founding members Aba Luke and Trevyn Roberts have been steadily keeping the world updated on events within carnival and the artistes who certainly make the season just what it is. Roberts who works behind the scenes doing all the back-end work as it relates to the site’s maintenance as well as graphical layout has found true passion in the project, taking on what was initially a spin-off job and making it a definite part of his daily routine. Now, with a thirst to see the project’s aim materialise, Roberts shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Likewise, Luke who is a media practitioner by profession is maintaining her personal goal of taking soca music to higher heights by exposing the artistes, the music and everyone else who has a hand in making it what it is.

Calling on the artistes themselves to utilise the medium for the promotion of their personal brands, Luke explained that the site’s e-rolodex is available for all artistes out of T&T. “ This really isn’t only for the big entertainers. In fact we want all artistes out of T&T to use this part of the site to their advantage. It’s a place where they can submit their booking agents’ contact information so that people can easily link with them if they require their services.”

A number of artistes have shown appreciation for the site, among them Antonio Alvarez- AKA Bunji Garlin who in a chat with Luke said, “Your role is important. You came back to T&T for a reason and this is it. ”
With just over one month of work in, the site has captured the attention of many and it is hoped that corporate entities will see its worth and aid in its development so that more can be done to generate awareness for what lies within Trinidad and Tobago. “ This is only just the beginning,” said Luke- this as she pointed out the importance of utilising the global media and specifically online media, in strengthening the way T&T is perceived internationally. “This is just Soca but think about how important it is for us to generate information about our products and services, Tobago as a tourist destination and even our eco- systems here in Trinidad. Etceterabuzz.com hopes to be that hub for all information relative to T&T and its promotion on an international level. We will start by making Soca seen, heard and felt but this is by no means where we’ll stop,” she said.

She encouraged the local print, radio and television media to utilise the information on the site in building credible stories and informing the public further via their channels, something that would ultimately work to the advantage of the entertainers and other stakeholders involved. On recent news that 16-year-old Caribbean entertainment news site, Torontolime.com has closed its doors, Luke said, “ What torontolime.com did for the exposure of Caribbean culture was tremendous. Our aim is to simply add to Jef Lo’s contribution and let the world understand that the Caribbean is much more than just sun, sea and sand.”
