Blackberry is now officially DEAD
When Blackberry halted its stock exchange earlier this month to discuss options for moving forward at that very moment the world knew what the folks within Blackberry has known for months. Blackberry died, we don’t know the exact time of death but it’s dead and information is slowly seeping out of how it all went down.
Q10: Nobody cares about the keyboard
According to the Wallstreet journal
“Sales of the keyboard-equipped Q10, which BlackBerry hasn’t discussed publicly, have been dismal, according to carrier executives and retailers in the U.S. and Canada.”
Have they learnt nothing, people have been buying iPhones, Samsungs etc without a keyboard in droves. Could Blackberry not see the trend they created died when capacitive touch screen technology was used in full touch phones? No one is buying the Q10, the very essence of what Blackberry stands for.
High prices
The Z10, Q10 and Q5 is not competivily priced and should not have been the focal point of Blackberry’s come back. Blackberrys are popular within the Caribbean and the eastern parts of the world, where low price devices are the norm. I don’t know who at Blackberry decided they would release $600 phones to markets which they have no strong hold. Making matters worse releasing an “affordable” device the Q5 priced at $400 dollars. Come on, the Nexus 4 is $300 wait no it’s now $199 off contract. Blackberry made some critical errors in pricing and device selection for their come back.
BBM to late
Rumor has it that BBM will become it’s own company. Now I have been waiting for BBM for Android and iOS forever but does it make sense now? Do I really want to be apart of the BBM community? I think not, the stubborn individuals still clinging to their blackberrys will have to sink with that ship. I have whatsapp.
