School Teaches Children English By… MAKING THEM CORRECT BIEBER AND RIHANNA TWEETS
A Brazilian school called Red Balloon has been using grammatically incorrect tweets by singers including Rihanna and Justin Bieber to teach children English.
Earlier this year the school launched an initiative called “Celeb Grammar Cops” in which pupils aged between eight and 13 were encouraged to correct tweets from celebrities which featured sloppy punctuation and bad grammar. This resulted in Bieber, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pink and Soulja Boy all being called out on Twitter.
Other careless tweeters to have had their wrist slaps by the “celeb grammar cops” include Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Daniel Radcliffe, Charlie Sheen, Ben Stiller and even Martha Stewart.
“We have celebrities that are not really worried about the language. Concerning education it’s really bad,” Brazilian exams co-ordinator Andrea Baena explains in a promotional video for the initiative. “Because when they see their idols speaking like that, [the children] come to us and say ‘But this is right, he’s American, he’s using it’, and it’s not the case.”:
