Some weeks ago, it had a small but noticeable protest in Point Fortin, the cause?

“WE WANT THE HIGHWAY!!!” right there and then these citizens are showing the support of the highway to Point Fortin, I for one fully agree and welcome this to our area, for too long Point and its environs have been neglected by the following elements:

For 3mths I myself have spent some time in Point Fortin doing a Computer course where in the building I’ve seen over 8 persons try to open and eventually close their businesses, these people have dreams to open and run these businesses as a living for life, in a small interview with a business owner who I’ve asked some special questions he has revealed the struggle he has had, please read the following:

****NOTE*** for security purposes we will call this person simply “Mr. John”

Me: “Sir in estimation how much money have you spent on this said business for assets, fixtures, and other items??”

Mr. John: “ I have spent over $30,000 of my savings including trying to take a small business loan which I never got, I had to resort to working part time and borrowing money that I don’t have, I know running a business is a risk, but to even obtain one sale which was given on credit because that’s how badly we needed the money is ridicules because not only this business have been struggling all businesses have been taken a toll on, the ones that are barely surviving are still here because of goodwill with their customers and have been here for 10+ years, OR have a secure job with a solid income and can afford to stay in operation…”

Me: “Sir you and numerous businesses have been complaining about government and bank loans, could it be that you don’t have the right criteria to obtain the loan or is there a political influence to this? Also if the business didn’t make money by a certain time to your agenda you could of seek employment and paid out your debts or invested into your business?”

Mr. John: “We all have the right criteria but then there’s the workers working at their own merry time, like they doing us a HUGE favor, our forms get lost in the system I bet it has forms from the 90’s sitting there! How can I get employment when nowhere will higher anybody? It goes like this, if you have enough qualifications your “Over Qualified” not enough? “Under Qualified” for your tail!”

**Mr. John holds a degree in Human resource, at the young age of 27 he has not been able to get employment, he will be leaving Trinidad & Tobago to go Barbados as a Human resource manager I wish him the best in his endeavors…**  

     How can we stop the diminishing of this part of the country? Simple and easy, Invest your time and effort for your area and country this is where our kids, grandchildren, and loved ones will live for years to come let’s do our part now, before our efforts become useless dust upon the houses we live in, swept away by _____________ Whoever you would like to blame, everybody but ourselves now a days this is our train of thought “It Wasn’t Me!!!” Dear citizens lets create awareness write, talk, speak to your fellow men and those in charge, we will save this country, one WORD at a time.

Some ideas I have for our country which I think would improve our status worldwide and put our youths to the right path are:

 The Highway: This famous development will bring so much businesses, jobs, boost in the economy  merging the country together, making it easy for a child from POINT to go UWI's main campus to study and come home within a short ride on the highway, of course this has some disadvantage by speedy drivers causing accidents? Nope more jobs for people who want to be policemen, highway patrol would help keep accidents down and even more development for our citizens!!!
