Soca artiste Swappi who was recently described to us here at ETCETERABUZZ.COM as possibly the most sought after artiste out of T&T outside of carnival, was last night spotted at the Island People media band launch at Flair restaurant along Ariapita Avenue. He said he's excited to hit the road with the band in 2013- aware that Island People has over the years, hosted big names in entertainment like Machel Montano and Jamaica's Beenie Man among others. Donning an all white ensemble with his signature mohawk inspired hairdo, Swappi hung out with friends of Island People- this as rep for the band, Collin Greaves highlighted plans to have Island People masqueraders indulge other mas lovers on the road, when it comes to truly having a hell of a time.
In 2013, Island People presents Re-Humanize- a concept realised in 2012 when creative minds associated with the band took note of the high levels of enjoyment among their masqueraders. ” We had masqueraders hugging each other by the end of the night on Carnival Tuesday and they didn’t know each other before. Our masqueraders were rolling on the ground when Fay-Ann’s song played and they were really having a great time. Our masqueraders are known for that,” said Greaves in a chat with us. He said the team, noticing the impersonal social trend that has taken the world and T&T by storm, as a result of the proliferation of social media tools like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, decided to make 2013 a bit different. ” We’re going to be focusing on customer service a lot so you’ll find our Island People representatives calling masqueraders when they sign up and welcoming them. These reps will then offer a personal level of service to these masqueraders with the aim of building solid relationships with them,” said Greaves.
Island People’s costumes were all manufactured locally, according to Greaves who said they had quite a challenge where that was concerned. He said while the band was yet to put price tags to their 10 sections, they were making every attempt to keep the prices in range with previous years.
Island People’s official band launch takes place on Saturday at the Queen’s Park Oval. They’re calling it a Band Launch Party, according to Greaves and with the ReHumanize theme in mind, they’re looking forward to all patrons coming out with coolers allowed before 10pm ( no glass bottles allowed), to indulge in the enjoyment and splendour of what they promise will be a real carnival vibe.
