Freddie
Jackson is on his way to Trinidad. The international artiste who will be
accompanied by three very big names in music, will serenade locals on April 28
at the Queen’s Park Savannah for a concert dubbed, Men of Soul and A Master.
Jackson is renowned. He is dubbed one of the biggest stars of the latter part
of the 80’s, having dominated the R&B charts, seemingly at will according
to All Music Guide’s, Steve Huey.
When he hits
the stage alongside Peabo Bryson, James Ingram and Jeffery Osborne later this
month in Trinidad, it goes without saying that Jackson will penetrate the
audience with his first single that maintained the number one spot on the
R&B charts back in 1985 for an entire six weeks- that single being Rock Me
Tonight. That hit, off the album of the same name had made Jackson an instant
sensation on urban contemporary radio, and his second single, You Are My Lady
went on to give the artiste his second straight R&B chart topper- which as
it turned out also proved to be his highest-charting single on the pop side,
peaking at number 13.
Jackson won’t only be coming to T&T
with his hits, but he’ll also show fans that he’s still the smooth operator he
was noted for being, back in the 80’s. Thirty-some odd years ago, Jackson wowed
fans of soul music with his charisma and sensual appeal. His vocal range
ignited the hearts of true music lovers and with 39 albums released to date,
this Man of Soul is coming with much more than just a few hit singles. Jackson
has performed to sold-out audiences alongside Bryson and Osborne- having toured
with them across the US in the official Men of Soul concert tour over the
years. On Valentine’s Day this year, his solo appearance at B.B King’s Blues
Club and Grill in New York City, raked in tremendous reviews, with one patron
commenting, “Great Show! Freddie
entertained us like a true professional! Freddie sang all of his classic hits
and more. Let’s not also forget that he was very, very funny. Kept us all
laughing. A great night out with my valentine!”
Gates open at 6pm on show
night in Trinidad with a start time of 8pm. Tickets have been selling very well
according to organisers who say they truly expect an outpouring of support from
T&T’s music enthusiasts- many of whom haven’t been privy to a concert of
this caliber in years. “ It’s not a show- it’s an experience said a
representative of the oranising team. We’ve mentioned it before and we continue
to reiterate the fact that this is about love- love of self and love of each
other,” said the rep, noting that a show like this is truly needed at this time
on the island. April 28 will undoubtedly be a big day in Trinidad and
organisers say they are looking forward to welcoming patrons from sister isle,
Tobago who will make the short trip over to Trinidad for the occasion. “Music
has no boundaries and so we know that people will travel from wherever they have
to, to consume every bit of this experience. It really is something no one
should miss,” said the representative.
