A LAW student was killed when the vehicle in which she was a passenger slammed into a light pole along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in Barataria and overturned.
Khadiedra Jack, 22, originally of Milford Court, Tobago, was a passenger in a silver-coloured Honda CRV heading east along the highway when the accident happened.
Jack, according to police reports, was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle and was heading to Curepe after attending the annual Insomnia fete at O2 Park, Chaguaramas. Three other passengers in the vehicle were injured.
Jack's mother, WP Cpl Camille Ramsey, a police photographer, was on the scene, but was too distraught to speak with members of the media. Her father is THA Assemblyman Steve Jack.
The driver, Dwayne Dopwell, of Whim, Tobago, sustained a broken arm, while two other passengers, one identified as Caston Cupid, 25, a sports reporter employed with Channel 5, in Tobago, escaped with minor injuries.
The vehicle crashed into a steel lightpole near Fujitsu, flattening the metal structure.
The vehicle stopped some 140 feet away from the point of impact, police said.
Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) were also on the scene yesterday to secure all high-tension wires brought down as a result of the accident.
A minor accident on the other side of the highway occurred as curious motorists slowed to get a closer view of the overturned vehicle.
Jack's death has pushed the toll to 15 for the number of people killed in road traffic accidents so far for the year, according to an Express tally.
