Denise “Saucy Wow” Belfon to celebrate 20 years in the Soca biz!

Known for her trademark dances and waist defying movements, Belfon plans to mark the occasion with the launch of her alter egoLady Boldface.
Next Carnival, Denise“Saucy Wow” Belfon will celebrate her 20th year in soca.
“I have been called that since I was seven. My stepfather says that should have always been my stage name,” she told Metro when she visited Slam’s 100.5 studios for an on-air interview. Lady Boldface will be a force to reckon with on stage as Belfon has two songs: Temper and Boldface to go with the new persona. She is also aiming to get into the finals of the Digicel Power Soca Monarch competition, the only place she says where she could show the true extent of her creativity.
“Machel say we need to come good. I want him to know Lady Boldface is coming for you baby,” she later told Serala, host of the midmorning Preset show on Slam. She noted that Soca Monarch would also celebrate a 20th anniversary, making the event extra special for her. Belfon’s alter ego doesn’t just apply to the stage. Stating that for years people have mistaken her kindness for weakness, the singer says that will change in 2012. She is going to become more vocal and forthright in all her business dealings.
Belfon already has three 2012 releases: Show Meh on the Zing Zang Riddim,Take Advantage and Wine it Gyal.  She plans to launch two others soon in addition to Temper and Boldface. One is a collaboration with Simba Armani and the other, called Taking Over, is the latest addition to the Barcode Riddim featuring Bunji Garlin, Konshens, Serani, Konata Alleyne, Skinny Fabulous, Super Jigga TC and Rayza and Jungle.
Belfon says she ended up on the riddim quite by chance. “I heard Bunji’s song and I say Bunji come real hard this year. He is one of my favourite artistes. That evening I had to go to the studio to finish up Show Meh, the Producer clicked on the riddim by accident. I say I hear that song this morning, who do that riddim?  Sheriff (of Black Ice Studios) said we did but it closed off. I asked them to reconsider and open it up for me,” she said.
In addition to singing, Belfon, who has a catering business on the side, is making her debut in 2012 as a costume designer. She has her own section inGenesis called Saucy Black, which also caters to plus size sisters.
She said the inspiration came from her ten-year-old daughter who brought out a kiddies band this year.
