"Jamaican Producer Says Shurwayne Winchester may Bridge J.A/ Trini Gap"
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. August 2, 2011------------- Shurwayne Winchester’s name has been bouncing from one Caribbean island to the next, in the past few weeks. The T&T Soca hit-maker’s been getting quite a bit of attention from his Caribbean counterparts lately. In fact Shurwayne’s been working alongside some of Jamaica’s finest artistes and producers, having flown to JA in early June where he collaborated on some very hot singles. His initiative has gotten the attention of many in Jamaica, with one producer saying that Winchester’s effort just could be what’s needed to bridge the gap between dancehall and soca music.
Today, August 2nd, the first of two tracks out of Jamaica was released. Producer, Justus Arison of JA Productions said it was great working with Shurwayne- something that happened quite by coincidence. “A friend of mine knows Shurwayne and said he was on the island. He brought him to the studio and he heard the riddim and immediately liked it. He started to vibe to it and before we knew it, we had the track,” said Arison.
The song, “ Wine On It,” is probably the raunchiest the world has ever heard Shurwayne Winchester- a signal that he just might be changing course. The track rides JA Productions’ Over Proof riddim and according to Arison, it’s all dancehall. In fact, it’s so much a dancehall riddim that artistes like Mavado, Beenie Man, Wayne Marshall, Daniel Bedingfield and Maka Diamond, among other Jamaican artistes, are on it. According to Arison however, Shurwayne’s track is wicked. “ He was great on the track, even though it’s dancehall,” he said. Arison also said he’s excited to work with the Trini artiste again, soon.
Think that’s it? Well, Shurwayne didn’t just stop at a track while in Jamaica. As insane as it may sound, the “Paradisin” singer stayed in Jamaica and shot a video for the steamy single. That video should be ready pretty soon as a rough edit of it’s being worked on at the moment. The track has however been releasesd, hitting Apple iTunes first for purchase and then trickling down to radio stations and other channels of media.
In Jamaica, Shurwayne also teamed up with one of reggae’s sons- Anthony B. They’ve collaborated on a single, which was produced by LCF Productions in Jamaica and is being mixed and readied for release in the days ahead.
Jamaica wasn’t the only place where hits were made though. In Barbados, in early July, Shurwayne met up with Lil Rick and they too, collaborated- making good of a connection through Platta Studios where King Buba’s the man with the riddims. ![]()
That collaboration marked the start of the 2012 soca journey for Shurwayne. From that point forward soca hits will be coming left, right and centre according to the artiste and following a series of top-rated performances across the Caribbean, Berlin, St. John and even at the Global Fusion Festival in Philadelphia- no one should doubt that Shurwayne Winchester is about to turn it up in 2012.
