Back in 1965 an obese man who weighed 456 pounds starved himself for 1 year and 17 days, surviving just on body fat, potassium supplements, multivitamins and yeast given to him by medics who monitored his health. The man from Scotland was constantly monitored by a team of medical specialists who took regular blood tests to make sure his body is properly functioning. At the end, his weight was reduced to 180 pounds. An interesting fact is that the man was weighted after five years and it was found he had gained only 15 pounds to his body weight.

We gain weight when the energy our bodies get with food isn’t converted in the right way and is accumulated in the shape of body fat. Many people undertake diets in order to lose weight and some of these dietary plans consist of starving your body to get slim. How long can we starve ourselves? Experts claim a human can die because of hunger if half of the body’s fat or protein is used up.
