Your body registers drinking carbonated drinks as pain!
You’ve all felt that nasty feeling when you drink soda too fast and you get an obnoxious burn down your throat. The reason for it is that carbonation actually triggers the same pain sensors in your body as mustard and horseradish, according to a new research study done at USC.
The author of the study explains that carbonation triggers 2 sensations: It makes things sour and it also makes them burn. The burning comes because a set of nerves gets triggered that respond to pain, skin pressure and temperature in the nose and mouth.
